Years 5 and 6 are when primary maths gets serious. Fractions, decimals and multi-step problems all lean on times tables and place value, and any shaky spots start to show.
We sort those out now so your child heads into Year 7 feeling ready. Lessons follow the Victorian Curriculum and use their school work as the starting point.

Multiplication facts, early fractions and decimals, and NAPLAN in March. Speed and accuracy come from understanding, so that's where we start.
Ready for high school
Percentages, ratios, early algebra and harder problem solving. The stuff Year 7 teachers assume students already know.
For kids who are ahead
Tougher problems, maths competitions and early prep for scholarship tests.
For kids who are behind
Usually it's a few specific gaps. Once those are fixed, everything else gets easier.

My child says they hate maths. Can you help?
Most of the time 'I hate maths' means 'I don't get it'. Once a few gaps are filled and they start getting questions right, the attitude usually shifts too.

Is it too early to prepare for scholarship tests?
Year 5 is a good time to start building the skills. Proper test prep usually kicks in about 6 to 12 months before the exam.
