Getting ready for a tough test
The selective entry test for Melbourne High, Mac.Rob, Nossal and Suzanne Cory is sat in Year 8. Places are limited, and the maths goes well past what most Year 7 and 8 classes cover.

Selective entry questions
Which schools use the selective entry test?
Victoria's four government selective entry high schools: Melbourne High School, The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School, Nossal High School and Suzanne Cory High School. Students sit the test in Year 8 to start in Year 9.
What's in the test?
Maths, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, reading and writing. We focus on the maths and numerical reasoning parts. The Department of Education website has the current format and dates.
Do you help with scholarship tests?
Yes. Lots of independent schools use ACER or Edutest scholarship exams, and the maths sections overlap heavily with selective entry prep.
How early should we start?
Most students start 6 to 12 months out. Starting in Year 7 gives time to build skills before switching to timed practice.
